Faithful Trillium

About 30 (or more!) years ago, Bill Ballard planted trillum in our garden. Bill's wife Elizabeth was a founding member of Hanover Friends Meeting, and was active in the meeting for over 30 years. Even after she suffered a debilitating stroke, she attended meeting regularly, with the loving support of her husband Bill. Elizabeth died in 1992, at age 80. Bill Ballard was a renowned biologist and professor at Dartmouth College, and one of his many passions was flowers, especially wildflowers. He grew and propagated Trillium grandflorum, and planted a number of them in the garden plot next to our meeting room, when the construction was new. This is the only one that remains, but it returns faithfully every spring, and always reminds me of the love of Bill and Elizabeth, and her faithful ministry to us.
