Hanover Quakers Host Cuban Quaker From Sister Meeting
On her way to the Section of the Americas gathering of FRIENDS WORLD COMMITTEE FOR CONSULTATION (fwccamericas.org) in NY, Kirenia Criado dropped in to worship at Hanover NH Friends Meeting on March 19, 2017.
More than two dozen Friends gathered for a continental breakfast before Meeting for Worship to catch up on all the activities of the vibrant Friends Church which is the sister monthly meeting to Hanover NH Friends Meeting of New England Yearly Meeting (neym.org).
We learned about their after-school program, "Coloreando la Esperanza" (The Coloring of Hope) for children living in the Marianao district of La Habana where the church is located, not far from the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center for Peace and Justice. We also about the progress they are making to repair and renovate what was a private home to a church/community center/hostel. Kirenia Criado said she hoped the two guest rooms would be used by Quakers from around the world who want to come to La Habana to offer workshops on various topics relating to the Quaker values of peace, justice and reconciliation such as Alternatives to Violence (AVP).
