a Quaker meeting in Knoxville, Tennessee

News & Announcements

Greetings Friends,

This Sunday on Armistice Day (11/11/2018) during 2nd hour, West Knoxville Friends will continue our discernment about a minute in support of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

In July, Peace and Social Concerns asked Meeting to consider having a banner for West Knoxville Friends to display at rallies, marches, and other such events.  The original idea was to convey a message to participants, advocates of contrary positions, and bystanders to pursue peace in a peaceable way. PSC saw a need to have a calm, respectful presence at such events to remind all to practice nonviolent thoughts, speech, and actions even as we stand against war, injustice, and hatred.

West Knoxville Friends will take up a minute proposed by our Meeting's Peace & Social Concerns Committee in support of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons during second hour following silent worship and fellowship/refreshments time on Sunday, September 23, 2018.
