In the middle of last year, 2016 our meeting began thinking about and sitting with the idea of changing yearly meetings from Baltimore Yearly Meeting to Piedmont Friends Yearly Meeting.
The reason being that Baltimore and most of the activities and events around BYM are geographically so far away.
We are down in the far south west corner of Virginia and as an aging meeting it became increasingly difficult for us to participate with BYM.
We will always hold BYM in high regard, as they took Abingdon Friends under their wing and made us an official monthly meeting in 2008.
BYM was always available to us, and we are thankful for all they have done to help us grow in Spirit and Truth.
Piedmont Friends Yearly Meeting came about in 2013 and just held the second Annual Session in Durham, NC at Carolina Friends School.
Four of us were able to attend and Abingdon Friends Meeting was joyfully accepted as part of Piedmont Friends Fellowship and PFYM.
It was an amazing experience to hear about other small meetings that are giving so much to others as we attempt to do here.
It is our desire to be an active part of this yearly meeting, to encourage and help it grow and serve others.
With joy in our hearts we returned to Abingdon with thoughts about how we can serve our community more fully.
The interim meetings are at New Market Meeting house, near Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. Only 2 1/2 hours away from us.
