Margaret Renkl of the NY Times recommends supporting nonprofits that turn donations into collective action. These include nonprofit news sources that identify environmental hazards in communities, legal organizations that push for conservation measures in the private sector and government, and conservancies that protect ecosystems.

Her specific recommendations include:
1. Southern Environmental Law Center, a nonprofit, nonpartisan legal advocacy organization for conservation and environmental justice.
2. The Land Trust for Tennessee works directly with landowners to preserve privately held fields and forests that serve as wildlife ecosystems and carbon sinks.

Forbes recommends 2 effective altruism charities (most effective per dollar spent):
1. Giving Green evaluates and recommends the most promising environmental charities for fighting climate change.  You can give to them and they fund the best charities.
2. Animal Charity Evaluators evaluates and recommends the most promising charities for animal protection.  You can give to them and they fund the best charities.

If you prefer to give to specific charities which are high-impact, cost-effective, and evidence-based, we can recommend:
1. Clean Air Task Force which works to curb air pollution in all its forms through regulation at the US state and federal levels.
