Toxic Charity

Public ContentAnyone can view this post

We are reading two books by Robert D. Lupton to inform our giving and charitable work: Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help (And How to Reverse It), Harper Collins, 2011; and Charity Detox: What Charity Would Look Like If We Cared About Results, Harper Collins, 2015.

UPDATE: We held a gathering on July 29th at the home of Peter and Sue Day with Peter leading us in a discussion of concerns and ideas generated by these books. We agreed to write Queries and Advices in the Quaker tradition to help clarify our thoughts and responsibilities in relation to our charitable contributions and work.
