Fort Myers Quakers
Welcome to the Fort Myers Quaker Meeting Website
Following is a brief introduction of who and what we are. The other pages on this website provide more details.
Quaker life and worship is based on our experience of the continuing revelation of the word of God and the process of discernment of that message, within our Quaker community. Listening to the continuing word of God leads us to the testimony, through our lives, of commitment to honesty, simplicity, peacemaking, and equality. Come join us in worship. You’ll find no preacher, dogma, or liturgy; no proselytizing, no pressure, not even a collection. You will hopefully find peace and quiet and love; friendship and fellowship and sharing; a time for listening to God’s message, and sharing it with others, a time for getting in touch with the “Light within.” Regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or nationality, every person is a potential messenger and servant of God. We are called to minister to one another, sharing pastoral responsibilities.
Fort Myers Friends Meeting is a constituent Monthly Meeting of Southeastern Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (SEYM). SEYM is affiliated with Friends General Conference (FGC), Philadelphia, PA, and Friends World Committee for Consultation, Division of the Americas (FWCC).
1st Day School is the common Quaker term for spiritual or religious education for children. It is held weekly during the regular school year. The children leave the meeting room as a group with their teacher at the beginning silent worship.
