On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, September 26, 9 people, including 4 children, hiked to Eagle Pond in Callahan State Park and spent some time visiting with each other and throwing sticks and pebbles.  We did not see any eagles, but we saw lots of nice dogs.  Later, 11 children and 13 adults, from 8 families gathered on the field at Framingham Meeting for a picnic, games, and socializing.  We welcomed first-timer attender Eliot Hebert!  The "bigs" played makeshift bocce with croquet balls, argued about who was tallest since our last gathering, showed off their guitar skills and their new classic VW "bug", and told about their work on the Children's Garden at Stearns Farm.  The "littles" made new friends, played on the swings and slide, chased each other around, and generally had a great time while the adults enjoyed visiting with each other.

On October 10, 3 families with 6 children hiked the "Trail Through Time" in Acton, a trail highlighting the artifacts and life of the Nashoba, a subgroup of the Nipmuc who lived around the Nashoba River in Acton and Littleton.  We learned to recognize ceremonial stone poles and walls.  We also saw the cellar hole of a "pest house" used for quarantined patients in Colonial times.  A good time was had by all!  First Day School plans to continue having a family hike, with everyone invited, every 2nd Sunday afternoon.  We will be having in-person FDS at the meetinghouse every 4th Sunday at 10 am, and possibly other weeks as well.
