Peace Walk Caravan, Mumias, Kenya

Moses Morenga has been a pastor in a "programmed" Quaker meeting (worship more like a typical Protestant service) in Kenya for the past 25 years, holding leadership positions in the yearly meeting as well as in his local and quarterly meetings.  He graduated from Friends Theological College and Covenant Bible College.  He was active in organizing the Peace Walk Caravan around his town of Mumias, which included distribution of food, clothes, and wheelchairs to the physically challenged.  He is married and has 4 daughters; his family is also supporting one orphan.

Moses was with us for First Day School (Sunday School) and Meeting for Worship.  We then had a potluck lunch, followed by a discussion with Moses.  We also had other visitors from New England Yearly Meeting who have an interest in Kenyan Quakers.

This was an opportunity to visit with an articulate member of a branch of Quakerism rather different from ours in many ways.  We explored our differences as well as our commonalities.
