Friends of the Light
Welcome! Friends of the Light holds two worship services each Sunday.
“Unprogrammed” worship (where we gather in silence) begins at 9:00 in the morning and lasts approximately 45 minutes.
The "semi-programmed" Sunday Morning Meeting for Worship begins at 10:00 a.m. The children join us for the first ten or fifteen minutes and then go to their own class.
We are part of The New Association of Friends.
At our recent living room conversation we looked at the plat maps showing where the original meetinghouses were - the school houses at Cedar Run and Long Lake - and photos of them - and plat maps of Pleasant Grove, and the Round Top schoolhouse where Levi Pennington taught, just outside Maple City.
We looked at the plat map that shows the Lone Pine schoolhouse, the predecessor of Traverse City Friends Meeting.
Between the notes of apprecation from our members and the heart-shaped pancakes it was a special brunch today. Thank you to Jiim for the wonderful buckwheat pancakes, and to Chef Tom for the made to order omelettes, and Dave's grill full of bacon! Excellent!
Come hungry! Our men are showing their appreciation and affection by cooking a special breakfast for all of us to enjoy after services. Thanks, fellas.
Next Sunday, December 1, after meeting for worship, we will be decorating the tree and running through the carols and hymns that we plan to sing the following Sunday. Do come!
Friends of the Light members Jim and Kathie will be traveling to Washington DC, along with other members of the New Association of Friends and Quakers from all parts of the USA, to take part in Friends Committee on National Legislation's Quaker Lobby Day and Annual Meeting, November 14-17.
FCNL: Driven by faith. Grounded in policy. Focused on the future.
