The recent violence in Paris again shakes us awake to the horror and chaos that is the routine reality for people across the Middle East, and in so many corners of our world. Growing millions seek safe haven from escalating suffering caused by war, injustice and climate change. We know God loves each of us, even when we are terrified, even when we hate. We know God loves us always, even when we struggle to love each other.

It was wonderful to have so many HMM Friends at New England Yearly Meeting in August, including at least 8 first-timers!

Hartford Meeting hosted Friend Sheila Garrett of Putney (VT) Monthly Meeting on August 9.  Following Yearly Meeting Sessions, Sheila has started her 3-1/2 month walk to Georgia to Koinonia Farm in Americus GA and for the annual School of the Americas Watch gathering at Fort Benning.

She  stopped here in Hartford overnight on Saturday, and joined us for a preworship informal conversation and worship on Sunday, Aug. 9.  After worship, she began her walk, and LouAnne McDonald joined her for two days of the journey.
