The Wider World of Friends

Friends, also known as Quakers and the Religious Society of Friends, have always had a concern for peace.

The American Friends Service Committee, founded in 1917, is the practical expression of the Quaker faith.  It received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1946 and has engaged in relief work, prison reform, nonviolent conflict resolution, community orgaanization and other concerns.  http://www.afsc.org

The Friends Committee on National Legislation, founded in 1943, is the largest peace lobby in Washington, D.C.  It advocates for social and economic justice, peace and good government.  http://www.fcnl.org

Friends World Committee for Consultation is the umbrella organization which seeks to encourage fellowship among all the branches of Friends around the world. http://www.fwccworld.org

Friends for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Concerns seeks to express God’s truth in the Quaker and the lesbian/gay/bisexual/ transgender communities and to deeply honor, affirm and uphold that of God in all people. http://quaker.org/legacy/flgbtqc/

Quaker Earthcare Witness is a spiritually centered movement which seeks to integrate concern for the environment with Friends testimonies. http://www.quakerearthcare.org
