Herndon Friends and our Food Ministry

In the 1980s, when we were known as Reston Preparative and later Reston Monthly Meeting, we became one of the faith communities supporting Reston Interfaith.  Reston Interfaith was founded in 1970 and was sponsored by a a consortium of faith communities to serve those in need.  In 2013, the name was changed to Cornerstones, but the mission remained the same.  Today, Cornerstones is a nonprofit organization that promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other human services.

Over the years, Herndon Friends Meeting has collected food for Thanksgiving baskets, backpacks and school supplies, winter coats and socks, Christmas presents, and other projects for Cornerstones.  The ongoing food collections are taken regularly to the food pantry to help keep their shelves stocked.

Most recently, COV-19 has created special needs in the community and the Meeting increased our financial support to Cornerstones.  In addition, individuals are encouraged to donate as they feel led.  More information is available at the Cornerstones website: cornerstonesva.org
