Friendship Evening Potluck and Program
Charles S. Philips Photography of Friends Meetinghouses and Late 19th-Century Landscapes
Guest speaker, Pamela Powell, Photo Archivist at the Chester County Historical Society, will present a slide show of images in the CCHS Charles S. Philips photography collection.
Charles Philips was an avid photographer who worked as a draftsman with the Pusey & Jones Company in Wilmington, Delaware, during the 1890s. Philips captured views of mills, covered bridges, churches, Friends meetinghouses, and the landscape in northern New Castle County, Delaware, and southern Chester and Delaware Counties in Pennsylvania. Among the CCHS Philips images are five photographs of Hockessin Friends Meetinghouse and cemetery, taken on January 14, 1896.
