Dear Friends, 

I find that I frequently have conversations with Friends and visitors to meeting about when to "speak into the silence." There is much written about when to speak, but while cleaning out old files from the meeting house a few years back, I came across a sheet of paper I find particulurly helpful. I've attached it below. I believe it to be copied from a page of the Friends Journal of August 1991. Friends Journal reprinted the column again in October 2005. I've tried to track down Friendly Woman, but the Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College seems to be missing Volume 9, where "Speaking into the Silence" first appeared.
