Welcome to Live Oak Friends Meeting! We are an open, welcoming community of seekers who meet weekly for meeting for worship, expecting to experience direct communion with God, the divine Spirit, or whatever name we use for that transcendent essence that infuses all life.
A fundamental Quaker belief is that there is “that of God in everyone.” We seek to interact with others from that perspective, and to live our lives according to the Quaker testimonies of integrity, equality, simplicity, and peace. Learn more about what Quakers believe here.
Our children and families are also very important, with a nursery for children under three, and programs for preschool, elementary, middle school and high school kids. And there are many other ways we build our community. If you would like to learn more about our weekly activities, subscribe to our weekly e-newsletter
As an unprogrammed Friends Meeting, we rely on our members to do many of the functions provided by paid staff in other churches. We have committees to do much of that work, and we also have many informal and intermittent opportunities for people to participate in the community.
Our meeting house is a James Turrell Skyspace, open to the public every Friday night and the first Sunday of each month 30 minutes before sunset. Weather permitting, the roof will be open to allow the public to experience the play of changing light over the simple white interior walls.
We share the blessing of this building by allowing individuals to rent it for weddings and memorial services. Community groups may also rent the building for events in keeping with Quaker values.
Contact Scheduler at scheduler@friendshouston.org if interested in scheduling an event at the meetinghouse
Live Oak Friends Meeting is a member of Bayou Quarterly Meeting, a regional group of Quaker meetings in southeast Texas and Louisiana; South Central Yearly Meeting, a larger group of Quaker meetings across Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana; and Friends General Conference, a national organization of Quakers.

An interesting history lesson on the women of the KKK in the 1920's exploring how people get induced into joining hate groups.

In spite of the best efforts of meeting members and helpful neighbors, the trash dumping by our paper recycling dumpsters has resulted in having to remove them.
You can take paper trash to Houston Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Center, 9003 N Main 77022, https://houstontx.gov/solidwaste/n_main.html

Peace and Social Action Committee (PASA) thanks the Meeting for their support in contacting our Representatives as a faith community asking for their support of HR 2407, “Promoting Human Rights for Palestinian Children Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act.”
