Adult and Youth Education
Just some of the many opportunities we offer to deepen our knowledge and spirit:
Children and Youth
First Day School for children and youth from preschool through high school is held on Sunday mornings during the regular school year.
Northern Yearly Meeting has a Children and Youth program during the Annual Session (Memorial Day weekend at the Lion's Camp in Rosholt, WI). Middle School and High School youth have the opportunity to participate in NYM retreats several times a year.
The Meetinghouse Library has a large collection of books on many topics, and some videos that can be checked out for a period of time. Come and browse our collection!
The Meeting publishes a Monthly Newsletter that serves to inform, inspire, and connect the Meeting community. It includes the minutes of Meeting for Business, updates from Meeting committees, First Day School activities, profiles of Meeting members, personal reflections, book reviews, and “Joys & Sorrows” (news about Friends).
Gathering forums are held at 10:00 most First Days (excluding the first Sunday when we have Business Meeting) and posted in the weekly announcements. These may take the form of worship sharing, informal discussion, or guest presenters. Topics are varied and include spiritual discernment, social justice issues, or pertinent Meeting issues. Contact Eric if you have an idea or request for a topic or speaker.
Inquirers Groups are held periodically to help newcomers and Friends with all levels of experience explore together what it means to be a Quaker. For more information, (or to ask questions about Quakerism via email), contact Julia Isaacs.
Couple Enrichment offers weekend retreats and workshops for committed couples to help nurture their relationships using Quaker values and practices, and hone good communication skills. Workshops are open to any adult couple in a committed relationship regardless of marital status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or meeting affiliation. Contact our Ministry & Counsel Committee if you are interested.
Northern Yearly Meeting holds Annual Sessions on Memorial Day weekend. This regional gathering of Friends of all ages, is centered around a theme, and offers plenaries, workshops and opportunities for fellowship in addition to daily business meetings. There is a vibrant Children and Youth program.
Friends General Conference Gathering, generally the first beginning of July, offers a chance to immerse yourself in a community of Friends from all over the country and beyond. The week of the Gathering is packed with programs and events, from small group morning workshops to public evening plenaries, and programs for children, teens and young adults.
Sundays 11:30 a.m. Children and youth go to their own programs after attending the first 15 minutes of 11:15 worship. Find out more about our First Day School and how to register on the First Day School page.
