The Golden Rule Comes to New Haven

The original peace ship, the Golden Rule, that set sail in 1958 to stop nuclear weapons tests in the Marshall Islands, and which inspired the many peace makers and peace ships that followed, has been restored. She is making her first visit to the eastern US, and she will be visiting New Haven from Friday, June 2 to Monday, June 5.

The Golden Rule crew spreads the word about the continuing dangers of nuclear power and nuclear weapons, and the poisoning of the air, water and soil from the entire nuclear cycle, from uranium mining to the disposal of nuclear waste.

She will be arriving in New Haven on Friday, June 2, when the crew will visit local schools with messages of peace and nuclear abolition.

At 1 pm on Saturday, June 3, the crew will join local religious leaders in a presentation at the New Haven Peace Garden, followed by a tour of Peace Trees planted throughout the city.

From 2-4 pm on Sunday, June 4, there will be public event at Long Wharf Pier with a public welcome, music, preesentations, and tours of the ship.

On Monday, June 5, there will be additional school presentations, and then the ship will continue on its tour, going up the Connecticut River to Middletown and Hartford before continuing up the East Coast.
