Online First Day School: Quilting Together: Stories of Black Americans
Quilting Together: Stories of Black Americans NYM Online First Day School Sunday, January 16th, 10:00-11:15am
Children, ages 6 – 11, are invited to the second NYM online First Day School. The theme is Quilting Together: Stories of Black Americans. Class will begin with children introducing themselves and sharing a fabric item (clothing, blanket, toy, etc.) they really like. We will read Belle, The Last Mule at Gee's Bend, written by Calvin Alexander Ramsey and Bettye Stroud, illustrated by John Holyfield. We will also share poems from Stitchin’ and Pullin’ a Gee’s Bend Quilt, written by Patricia McKissack and illustrated by Cozbi A Cabrera. We will create a Community Quilt by each decorating our unique quilt squares, then virtually “collaging” them together. Finally, we’ll make and enjoy an easy snack. Join us!
