We are the Plainfield Friends, also known as Quakers. We have been in Plainfield since the 1700s, and changed as the community has changed. Today we are a continuing faith community. Our basic belief is that every person has that of God within. This shapes our faith and our social witness. We believe it is important to practice and nourish both. Thus we hold worship services, and we take action upon the world to advocate for just treatment of all.
Quakers in the twenty-first century adopt contemporary lifestyles much as other mainstream faith communities. The “Quaker” of the Quaker Oats box is a historical image that is dated by 150 years. Our spiritual community has no association with the brand or manufacturer. Today in most Quaker congregations (we call them meetings) most members and attenders are people who were not born Quaker. We offer a faith and social witness that is open to seekers.

What's New

Our construction project to rebuild the school wing is finally under way!
Thanks go out to everyone that helped with the significant work of clearing out many years of accumulated things and helping keep the project on track.
We will not have use of the school wing for the next few months but accomodations have been made for coffee hour and restrooms etc so meetings will continue un-interruped.
It is critical we get as much help as possible on March 10th to help clean out the school wing.
Please join us. Food will be provided.
Friends, the construction project to rebuild our school wing is happening!
You will see lots of changes and things happening in March and we would appreciate your help in making it all work.
Plans are being made to remove everything from the school wing on Sunday, March 10, so that asbestos removal and reconstruction of the school wing can begin. A pod will be on the property in which to store things we are keeping. A dumpster will be available for things we are not keeping. We need everyone’s help.
There will be a Quakerism 101 session on Meeting for Business on February 24th at 9AM.
All are welcome to learn or to contribute to the discussion.
The annual tag sale run by Junior Business Meeting and supporting adults will be held Sunday, October 14. In the meantime, bring your contributions of household goods to the nursery room. Adults are invited to help with pricing of goods for the sale. The money raised will be given to the meeting toward the renovation project.
New attenders or long-time members and attenders are invited to arrive at 9 a.m. before meeting for worship the last Sunday of each month for Quakerism 101, focused on both history and spiritual development of Quakerism. It is led by Karen Tibbals and Caleb Anderson. “Everyone may learn something new,” says Karen.
