Saturday, February 11, 8:30 a.m  - 2017 HKonJ (Historic Thousands on Jones)
Gather at 8:30 a.m.
Opening Rally at 9:00 a.m.
March and People's Assembley at 10:00 a.m.
https://hkonj.com/2016/12/20/featured-content/

Friends will meet at the corner of S. Wilmington Street and E. South Street. Susan Davis will be there with the banner by 9:00 at least.  The banner is maroon-colored with "Quaker" in white letters across the front. The march itself starts at 10:00, but there will be a rally at 9:00.

Although the NAACP sponsors this march, they are very generous in their invitation to include many different concerns. If you have a favorite sign concerning schools, women's rights, gun control, the environment, etc., you should consider yourself welcome to carry your sign if you want. Two people will be needed to carry the RFM banner.

Please note that there is a McDonald's at the corner of E. South and S. Wilmington. It is helpful to them if we gather at the side of their parking lot and not in it!

FCNL Advocacy - Reining in Pentagon Spending

It’s immoral that, in 2017, Congress is planning to raise the Pentagon Budget by $30 billion or more while simultaneously promising to dismantle the social safety net that keep 38 million people out of poverty. Our budget is a document that communicates our priorities are as a country and it will be one of the most pressing conversations Congress will take up in 2017. Advocacy Teams will be at the center, taking every opportunity to push our members of Congress to rein in Pentagon spending. - FCNL website

Contact Vernie Davis or Jan Schmidt if you are interested in learning how to be an effective advocate for legislation in support of Quaker values.

Saturday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. - Following up on the meaningful discussion/sharing on gender issues that RFM has recently experienced, Peace and Social Concerns will sponsor the screening of "Gender Revolution, a journey with Katie Couric."  Doors open at 6:30pm; movie begins at 7:00 p.m. (note: there is not a potluck at this event).

This event is open to other community members to attend; we will be reaching out with an invitation to LGBTQ organizations, Triangle Quaker Meetings, Pullen Baptist, etc.  Please feel free to share this email with your networks.

We are receiving a copy of the DVD from National Geographic and have pledged to have at least 30 people to view the film, so please mark your calendar and plan to attend!  It sounds fascinating.

Our plan for the evening is to view the 90 minute film and then have a discussion period using a study guide that accompanies the DVD.
