Salem Creek Friends Meeting Outreach Projects, as of January 2014

On the last Sunday of each month, Salem Creek Friends accept donations of baked goods for the Samaritan Ministries (a shelter for the homeless in Winston-Salem). Both store-bought and homemade items are welcome, but the people at Samaritan Ministries have told us how much they especially appreciate home-baked goods. Samaritan Ministries is also happy to accept sample-sized toiletry items, men’s winter gloves, dish towels, and other items. For more information, visit http://www.samaritanforsyth.org/

Also on the last Sunday of the month, we accept non-perishable food & toiletries (regular sized) for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. A list of the Second Harvest Food Bank's most-needed items is available at: http://www.hungernwnc.org/get-involved/most-needed-items.html With recent cutbacks in federal and state aid for hunger programs, the food bank's need is greater than ever.

We also collect supplies monthly for the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools Educator Warehouse, a collaborative effort of the Forsyth Education Partnership and the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Council of PTAs, which offers teachers a place to “shop” for supplies and instructional materials. For a list of most-needed items, visit http://www.wsfcs.k12.nc.us//site/Default.aspx?PageID=48171

Since 2012 Salem Creek Friends has partnered with El Buen Pastor [http://elbuenpastorlcs.org/] and local schools to identify families that need some special attention during the Christmas season.
