Adult Education Final Session of the Series on Systemic Racism and Inequality

Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. via Zoom

In the summer of 2020, Santa Monica Friends Meeting Adult Education Committee started a series of sessions on Systemic Racism and Inequality. This series focused upon the history, causes and present-day impact of racial and economic inequality. It was offered as a journey of discovery, as we became spiritual seekers, open to connect and go deeper in our individual and communal beliefs and practices.

In the final session of this series on September 5th, we plan to reflect on what this past year has taught us, what we have learned from life itself, and from the classes. It is an opportunity to reflect upon and speak about personal and communal spiritual transformation. We invite participants to share thoughts and responses to the chaos unleashed by the pandemic, by economic and political trauma, and by the deep divisions and open wounds within our country.

We will ask participants to share on the following queries

Upon reflection,

· What have you learned from these sessions and the events of this past year about the problems and traumas of systemic racism and inequality, and about their potential solutions?

· Have you experienced personal transformation and spiritual growth?

· What are you and our community called to do about systemic racism and economic inequality?

We hope you will attend the September 5th session, whether you attended all, some, or none of the sessions over the past year; we look forward to engaging as many people as possible in this discernment and discussion.
