April 27th Stand Against Racism Event in Trenton features local artist and activist
CWA Local 1036 and Trenton Friends Meeting (Quakers) organize event at Friends Meeting House to highlight and combat racism.
Trenton, NJ –On April 27, 2015 the annual Stand Against Racism event in Trenton, organized by CWA Local 1036 and the Trenton Friends Meeting (Quakers) will be held from noon to 1:00 pm at the Trenton Friends Meeting House, 142 E. Hanover Street in Trenton. Featured speakers will be Will “Kasso” Condry of the S.A.G.E. Coalition and Patrick Hall from Campaign to End the New Jim Crow, Trenton Chapter.
Stand Against Racism is a movement that was created by the Trenton and Princeton YWCA’s in 2007 in order to raise awareness that racism still exists and that it should not be ignored or tolerated. The long term goal of this event is to remove the barriers that prevent understanding and divide us. Stand Against Racism events were held in 39 states last year. Let’s celebrate our diversity, eliminate racism together, and take the Stand Against Racism Pledge.
Will “Kasso” Condry is a Trenton artist and mentor. His art can be found in many local beautification projects as part of the S.A.G.E. Coalition whose mission is for urban renewal. Their goal is the rebirth of Trenton through creative problem solving and civic engagement in the community.
Patrick Hall is a local activist and grass roots organizer for The Campaign to End the New Jim Crow. Among the goals of that group is to educate and organize to end mass incarceration and discrimination that occurs in the criminal justice system. The goal is to increase awareness and work to support legislation to change what has become a “broken system”.
This event and other “Stand against Racism” in the area are posted on the YWCA’s website: http://www.standagainstracism.org/.
