Modern-Day Quakerism Week 1

Modern-Day Quakerism with Alex Miller: Week 1

If you are new to Quakerism or want to hear what's "new" in Quakerism, West Chester Friends hosts a class on modern-day Quakerism starting at 7:15 pm on Tuesday, October 4 at West Chester Friends Meetinghouse, 425 N High St, West Chester (at the corner of High and Marshall).
The class is taught by Alex Miller of Downingtown Friends Meeting and will help open the window to the spiritual experiences you are likely to encounter on your Quaker path. We’ll meet one evening a week for six weeks. This is a hands-on class—there is no preparation or home work, and half the class time is devoted to exercises with the Inner Light.
Each session is stand-alone so you can attend as many or few as you're able to.
Please let us know if you'll need childcare.
For more information or to register, email us at info@westchesterfriends.org or call 610-696-0491.

Schedule

Week 1 Introduction: Discusses the lay of the land and the essentials of Quaker Speak

Week 2 History: Focuses on Quakers in William Penn's Pennsylvania. William Penn is a remarkable man, Friend, and a great role model even today. His Holy Experiment is the most ambitious effort in history to create a utopian society.

Week 3 Nuts & Bolts: Covers what Quakerism is and isn't today. In Faith and in Practice, it will help new Friends (perhaps some "old" ones?) better understand and more fully experience Quaker worship and spirituality.

Week 4 Spiritual Home: Describes everything about our Meeting: People, history, customs, events—everything to make you feel welcome and at home.

Week 5 Business: Shares tidbits about the functioning of Meeting. How Meeting is structured and how it fits into the big picture of the Quaker world.

Week 6 Post-grad study: What is it like to be a Quaker?
