Institutional Assessment on Racism Update: April 2019

The Institutional Assessment Working Group has continued its work as a Naming body for the assessment's Implementation Group that was created at the last FGC Central Committee meeting. The final list of names for the Implementation Group are:

  • Eppchez Nomi (New England Yearly Meeting)
  • David Etheridge (Baltimore Yearly Meeting)

  • Vanessa Julye (Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, FGC staff)
  • Carolyn LeJuste (Lake Erie Yearly Meeting)
  • Madison Paulus (North Pacific Yearly Meeting)
  • Marta Rusek (FGC staff)
  • Regina Renee Ward (Intermountain Yearly Meeting)

The group is looking towards setting up its first meeting fairly soon and the members are enthusiastic about beginning this transformational work.

Recently, members of the Institutional Assessment Task Force have also been traveling in the ministry to share their work with Friends interested in FGC’s anti-racism efforts. Task Force member Janice Domanik recently presented the Task Force’s report to Lake Forest Friends Meeting’s (LFFM) Meeting for Business. In addition, she met with the Worship and Ministry Committee of LFFM to discuss possible resources to be used by the meeting to learn more about the impact of racism on the Religious Society of Friends and Lake Forest Friends Meeting.

On March 17th, Vanessa Julye and Shaina Robinson of Friends General Conference’s Ministry on Racism Program presented the results of the Institutional Assessment on Systemic Racism to Germantown Monthly Meeting’s adult class. Friends learned about the origins of the Institutional Assessment and were also informed of FGC’s direction for ongoing anti-racism work. During the presentation, the class broke out into small groups to discuss how they felt their meeting was reflected in the assessment’s monthly meeting survey data. Additionally, they were asked to consider how anti-racism consciousness could be reflected in their decision-making process.
