Parking Restrictions on May 14-15

Friends,

We have been informed by United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Philadelphia, our next-door neighbor up Mermaid Lane, that on the weekend of Saturday, May 14, and Sunday, May 15, we will not be able to use their lot as our overflow parking area as we usually do. Here are the specifics, from their letter to us:

  • May 14, 2016 (Saturday) – There is a meeting at the agency which will require access to the total UCP agency parking lot.
  • May 15, 2016 (Sunday) – The agency will be using the lot for paid parking in association with The Chestnut Hill Home and Garden Festival.
    • Parking on the lot will be provided for a fee of $10 per car.
    • We will not be able to exempt some cars and not others.

While there is often street parking on Mermaid Lane, it seems likely to fill up quickly, as many of our residential neighbors have no off-street parking. Friends coming to the meetinghouse should consider dropping off less mobile passengers at our front door and then parking at the lots around the Acme store and other stores in that mall area. Friends who live nearby should seriously consider walking or biking to the meetinghouse if they need to be here at any point that weekend.

While these restrictions may create inconvenience for some, we need to remember that UCPA allows us to use their parking lot without charge, and is always careful to let us know when something such as paving or uses like these will limit our access to their parking lot. They are very generous and thoughtful neighbors.
