Clearwater Friends Meeting
10:00am - 11:00am
As a Meeting we have been addressing the matter of Moral Injury. Now, a national publication embraces this critical conversation with an article by the writer Peter Van Buren. His article addressing Moral Injury in the Nation, May 2017, can be found at this web address: https://www.thenation.com/article/who-pays-the-moral-price-of-war/
Benjamin B. Ferencz is a Hungarian born American lawyer, who, at age 97, is the last Nuremberg prosecutor alive. He has a special message for the world in this May 7, 2017 interview on CBS 60 Minutes. "War," he says, "makes murderers of otherwise decent people." And for all those concerned with peace, he says, "It takes courage not to be discouraged."
Friends and Attenders from Clearwater, Tampa and St. Petersburg Meetings met with Shahra Anderson, the regional representative for Senator Bill Nelson, at St. Petersburg Meeting on May 3, 2017. Discussion among the fifteen participants focused on the federal military budget with a concern that there be no increased military spending and that those resources instead by used to promote peace and to support improvements to the general health and welfare.
Each year our members and attenders meet to discuss the Spiritual State of the Meeting in response to questions suggested by Southeastern Yearly Meeting. All SEYM Meetings participate in this process.
From the Friends Committee on National Legislation:
Every day, we at FCNL hear the same question from people around the country: “what can I do to change what’s happening in the world?” And, our 75 years on Capitol Hill have shown us the answer: you can lobby!
According to congressional staff, Constituent lobby visits are the most effective way to influence the policy decisions of members of Congress. If you’ve been calling your members of Congress’ offices and are ready to take the next step, this is your opportunity.
