Quaker Call - Personal Reflections & Sharing of Resources

The Second Query in the Urgent Call to the Religious Society of Friends asks,"How can I/we respond with resolute love even while I/we may be struggling with fear, apathy, or hate?" I am grateful to Friends, especially during these polarized times, that Quaker process, as expressed above, is always paramount.  Blessed Community is what we create when we interact with one another in resolute love; it begins with just two people. It is not something we achieve when we reach a tipping point somewhere in the future....and can rest on our laurels...it is something we strive to do now.....everyday...always.

The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. states in his Six Principles of Non-Violence, "2. Non-Violence seeks to win Friendship and Understanding - The end result of non-violence is redemption and reconciliation. 5. Non-violence chooses Love instead of hate."

I have been heartened to find that resolute love/Blessed Community has been evident in all of the gatherings, discussions, information and training sessions I have participated in relating to the Quaker Call to Action. Just us folks, fellow humans, friends, all working together on a common goal. Sharing what we are creating together....responding with resolute love.

Here is a 5 minute action that can be taken through the League of Women Voters (a non-partisan organization) to help preserve democracy by writing legislators asking them to support the “Disclosure Act”.  I realize writing Florida legislators can seem fruitless, but even so at this time I think we have to do everything we can.

They give you a form letter you can send, but here is how I modified the letter to my legislators (amazingly both of whom I believe support the bill):

I am concerned about the use of "dark" money and as a US citizen, I feel I have the right to know who contributes money to which campaigns and thus influences our elections. Please pass the "DISCLOSE ACT" which has been brought before you many times in the last ten years.

Everyone today is worried about democracy and the fairness of elections. Dark money undermines the significance of the voter and disrupts the election process.

Healthy democracies depend on transparency by providing us voters with  truthful information. Without it, large donors have a weightier voice in who gets elected.

Please help preserve the integrity of our elections by promoting transparency in our elections.  All spending and contributions in elections, whether by corporations, unions, individuals, or other groups, should be public, so voters can make informed decisions. This is the purpose of the DISCLOSE Act.

I am asking you to vote for the DISCLOSE Act, to help remove dark money in our elections and to improve campaign contribution transparency necessary for a sound democracy.

Thank you so much.
