Please join us for Quaker Conversations every fourth Sunday.

Quaker conversations are an opportunity for Friends to gather and discuss issues of importance to our own seeking. We meet in the side room at Nolita's, a local coffee shop on Warren Street, following the rise of meeting for worship (approximately 11:45 a.m.).

Upcoming topics include:

  • Meeting for Discernment: Kristi and Lisa will share their experiences of Winter Meeting for Discernment, held in Poplar Ridge, NY on March 11, 2017. The Meeting for Discernment focused on the theme for Summer Sessions 2017: Bringing the Peaceable Kingdom to a Turbulent World as well as these queries:

    • How do our meetings nourish the Light within the meeting, the Light within those in the meeting, and the Light in others?
    • How do I nourish the Light within myself? How do I stay centered, ready to be open to new insights and experiences? How can I become ready to listen for Spirit in those people with different opinions and beliefs? Howe do I face my fears? How do our meetings help us with this?
  • Conflict: As a Meeting, how do we learn from conflict? How do we grow and adapt practices and traditions through these experiences?
  • Vocation: How is vocation a spiritual path? How do we as Quakers align our testimonies with our vocations?

Recent topics include:

  • Individuals and Community: How are community and traditions intertwined? How does tradition impose limits on individuality and discovery? How do individuals negotiate communal practices?

  • Tradition and Change: How do we define tradition? How do we create/address/challenge adaptations to religious tradition?
