Outside Ourselves

Fall Family Gathering at Crystal Lake Camps offers workshops that help us learn more about inside and outside ourselves, and it offers wonderful outdoor opportunities. This year’s schedule includes the following:

Privilege Walk—A multi-generational workshop led by a member of the Undoing Racism Group from PYM. The workshop will use a privilege walk to help us create a tangible understanding of, and our involvement in, white privilege. A privilege walk consists of lining participants up in a straight line to simulate life’s journey and the idea that all people are created equal. Then, a series of questions are asked one at a time, leaving time for participants to comply with the statements. At the end of the statements, the group has a more visual/physical definition of white privilege and the advantages that help to sustain it. After the activity, we will break into small groups to debrief and share results of the activity and the ways we are actively trying to expose/debunk the exclusionary practices of white privilege/supremacy.

A Conversation on Living with Climate Change — Larry Mutti, Huntingdon MM. Bring your questions and ideas.

Quaker Chanting—Using Paulette Meier’s CD, “Timeless Quaker Wisdom in Plainsong,” Lynne Graham will lead us in chant-like songs based on the words of 17th century Quaker leaders, both men and women. The messages are spiritually rich, socially relevant, and deeply inspiring!
