How fares the Spirit?

Early in every new year, Friends are asked the query: How fares the Spirit amongst you? Responding to that simple query takes time, as does most everything we do in community. Memphis Meeting traditionally begins the process with a worship sharing session in January, appoints someone to draft the document we call The State of the Meeting, takes it up in business meeting in February, finalizes it in March, and sends it on to SAYMA

Writing a State of the Meeting report tasks us to be mindful of our meeting community as a whole: a much more difficult task than asking ourselves how we feel individually about our meeting or about ourselves in meeting. Mindfulness is not a Quaker Testimony, but we ask ourselves so often to be mindful that it is at least a recurring Quaker motif and this is a good chance to practice it.

Copies of State of the Meeting reports from past years are available for perusal in the Boaz Library. Look for the 3-ring binder on the first set of book shelves near the desk.
