Spiritual Development

Pendle Hill, the Quaker study center outside Philadelphia, has some virtual workshops that might interest you. There is a registration fee, but M&N would like to pick that up for anyone who is interested in doing this kind of “spiritual development.”

Even though virtual conferences do not require travel, they do represent a real commitment of time and, for those of you who access the web through a cell phone, it is unclear how connected you might feel with the other participants. Here is what is on offer this fall:

  • Exploring Quaker Writings: Thursdays from September 2nd to October 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. CDT. Slowly reading and contemplating a brief text. $125.
  • Pendle Hill Reading Group: A different book is chosen each month. In September it meets on Wednesday the 8th from 5:30 to 7 p.m. CDT. Free to the public.
  • Quaker Caregiving in Times of Crisis: Friday September 10 at 6 p.m. CDT, continuing through Sunday September 12 at 4. A follow-up session will be held on December 4. $100.
  • Quaker Theological Ecosystem: Friday October 1 at 6:30 CDT through Sunday October 3 at 11 a.m. CDT. $100. Limit 40 participants.
  • Jesus at Christmas, an open bible lecture series: Thursdays November 18, December 2, 9, and 16 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. CST. $125.
  • Decision-Making and Clerking with Joy and Confidence: Friday November 19th at 3 p.m. CST through Sunday 21st at 10 a.m. $150. Limit 40 participants.

Log onto pendlehill.org/events for detailed information and to register. We still need to work out whether we can pay for your registration directly to Pendle Hill or whether we will have to reimburse you, so if you are interested in participating in any of these programs, please contact Carol.
