The American Friends Service Committee’s Miami office threw a party Saturday night (December 16th, 2017) to celebrate AFSC’s 100th birthday, lighting up the Miami Friends Meeting like “a big happy house,” as a Friend described. Lots of faces were lit up too with, especially the little ones,’ thrilled by the pinata, the balloons, the lights moving and blinking like fireflies. Mariachis rang out and Haitian drummers and singers reverberated across the patio and into the outdoors where a food truck prepared delicious tacos and burritos. The meetinghouse inside and out was transformed. Paul Andre was the master of ceremony as past and present AFSC staff were acknowledged for their commitment to the work of social justice.
