Meditation on Silence, by Laura B.

About ten years ago, I saw a post going around social media called ‘Blessings Jar’—write down good things that happen during the year, put those slips of paper in a container. A way to be intentional in your day to day. I started doing it because it seemed like a spiritual goal I could attain. I’ve done it for a decade now, and it always tells me something.

The passage shared at meeting for worship on November 28 was from Peter Fingesten and Carole Cacace Fingesten Forbes:

Silence creates its own tensions, it fluctuates like waves; after every high there is a low; even soft murmurs as its waves dissipate toward the shore. You may step into the pool of silence denuded and in pain but you will emerge from it restored in truth and peace.

As a lead-in to the September 26 meeting for worship, Ron played Simple Gifts on the hammered dulcimer.

The passage shared by the clerk during worship was from Gunilla Norris:

“Within each of us, there is silence. A silence as vast as the universe. And when we experience that silence, we remember who we are.”

One Friend heard the passage differently:

“Within each of us, there is silence. A silence as fast as the universe. And when we experience that silence, we remember who we are.”
