On April 18, Laura's friend, Sa'ed Atshan, joined Memphis Friends to lead a meeting for learning. During the hour, he touched on many topics close to the heart for Memphis Friends, including several topics covered in AFSC's 2017 feature article and interview. Currently on faculty at Swarthmore in its Peace and Conflict Studies department, Sa'ed will soon be joining the faculty of Emory University in Atlanta.

At the January 17 Meeting for Learning, Mahal Burr - who grew up in Memphis Friends Meeting - emceed a panel of fellows from Brothers and Sisters Speaking Out for Change, Jada and Stanneisha. The panel explored three questions:

Walker, Joanne's assistant for First Day School on November 15, reports: "We began by talking about how air affects us and the environment. We shared stories about breathing or the lack thereof. We also explored air more scientifically, talking about what elements were in the air. This led to a tangent about what atoms are. We got back to air by talking about how breathing helps us relax and talked briefly about yoga and experiences with yoga. Then Joanne performed a demonstration where she crushed aluminum cans using air pressure, which was a hit for all.
